How do you pick a payroll company?
Posted by Mike.Warren on May 6, 2009I am deciding if I need a payroll company for my company with 4 employees. So far I have been handling my own payroll with the help of my account, but I am tired of the work. How much does using a payroll company add to the cost of paying my people? Do people think it is worth the time saved to pay this expense?

First know exactly what your payroll requirements are.
Second find a processing option that will fit your needs.
Third and most important, determine the exact costs that will be charged to process your payroll.
Check to see if there are any extra pay period or per employee processing costs.
There is also probaly a fee to process the government required tax forms and more detailed payroll reports at the end of each year.
Know what you need and get it in writing. Have your payroll provider guarantee in writing their services and costs, and give you a fixed cost.
